Public demand has been so high the Treasury Department will mint an additional 490,000 commemorative coins to mark the cremation of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej this October.
The largest portion will be 400,000 silver commemorative coins priced at 2,000 baht each, with 50,000 more gold coins priced at 50,000 baht each and 40,000 copper coins priced at 3,000 baht each, director-general Patchara Anuntasilpa said on Monday.
The department will start selling the coins on Sept 18. People can reserve just one each. Those who have already purchased a coin from the previous minting will have the right to buy one more each, but only of a type they had not yet bought.
There are still 23 million cupronickel coins priced at 100 baht each available for purchase, limited at three per person. The department will mint a total of 39.9 million of the cupronickel coins.
Orders will be taken at Treasury Department offices nationwide and at all branches of commercial banks.
In the previous lots, the department took bookings for 99,999 gold coins, 399,999 silver coins and 39,999 copper coins. Coins purchased from both batches will be delivered from Jan 29 next year.
The royal cremation is set for Oct 26 with the ceremony over five days, from Oct 25-29.
