Pick-ups collide in Chachoengsao; 3 dead, 3 hurt

CHACHOENGSAO - Four people were killed and three others injured when two pick-up trucks collided on a road in Plaeng Yao district on Sunday morning.

Pol Capt Nitipat Srihabut, a Plaeng Yao police duty officer, said the fatal accident occurred on Highway 3551, connecting Highway 304 and 331.

A police investigation revealed that while a grey Toyota Vigo was heading for the Nong Pla Taphian intersection in the rain, the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle, which swerved across the road divide to the other side of Highway 3551 and collided with a white Mitsubishi Triton.

The two pick-ups were badly damaged in the collision.

Four men in the Toyota Vigo were killed.  They were Charoenchai Padungsak, 32, the driver; Atthasit Koprawes, 30; Withaya Pirinyuang, 32; and Panupong Chaona, 28.

Two men and a woman in the Mitsubishi Triton were injured -- Chanwit Kongsombat, the driver, Nathapong Tipprom and Ms Sunisa At-uam.  They were admitted to Plaeng Yao Hospital.

Eyewitnesses told police that the Toyota Vigo was travelling at high speed in heavy rain.  The four passengers who were killed were rushing to work in a factory in the Gateway City Industrial Estate.
