NAKHON RATCHASIMA: Despite heavy rain brought by several storms causing widespread flooding in most parts of the country, the water levels behind all five major dams in this northeastern province are still well below full capacity.

Chidchanok Somprasert, director of the 8th Irrigation Office, said although rainwater has raised water levels behind the dams during the past month, most are still less than half full.

Lam Takhong Dam in Sikhiu district is now holding 111 million cubic metres of water, about 35% of its capacity of 314 million cubic metres; Lam Moon Bon Dam in Khon Buri district has 83 million cubic metres, 59% of its 141 million cubic metres capacity; Lam Sae Dam in Khon Buri district is holding 158 million cubic metres, 58% of its 275 million cubic metres capacity; Lam Phra Phloeng Dam in Pak Thong Chai district has 87 million cubic metres, 56% of its 155 million cubic metres capacity; and Lam Plai Mat Dam in Soeng Sang district is holding 66 million cubic metres, 66% of its 98 million cubic metres capacity.

Mr Chidchanok said that the five dams are still capable of taking much more water.  The rain brought by tropical storm Doksuri is nothing to worry about, he said.
