Thai man found near US highway 'died of overdose'

OKLAHOMA CITY: A Thai man whose body was found along the side of a highway in the US state of Oklahoma in July died from a methamphetamine overdose, police say.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) reported on Friday that 41-year-old Thanakrit Thuetong died from acute methamphetamine toxicity. The manner of death was ruled accidental, according to a report in the Norman Transcript.

Thanakrit's body was found on July 28 along the side of state Highway 56 in Seminole County, a few hundred metres from Interstate Highway 40. Investigators believe he had been living in Florida and was driving along I-40 to visit relatives in California.

OSBI agents have said that Thanakrit parked his car in the parking lot of a convenience store. Surveillance video showed him inside the store with a black backpack, then walking past his car and along the highway.

Jessica Brown, with the OSBI, said his body was found about 600 metres from the store; however, the backpack was not found.

“We suppose somebody picked it up. We’re asking that person to bring it back to us, let us know what was in that backpack. It could help us solve why he was there, what he was doing,” said Brown.
