One killed, 1 badly hurt in Hat Yai motorbike-lorry collision

SONGKHLA: The driver of a motorcycle was killed and the pillion rider seriously injured in a collision with an articulated lorry at an intersection in Hat Yai district early on Sunday morning, police said.

Pol Maj Somkiat Khamsuwan, a Hat Yai police investigator, said the accident occurred at about 1am in the middle of the Khuan Lang intersection on the Asian Highway in tambon Khuan Lang.

The traffic lights at the intersection were not functioning normally, with yellow lights blinking in all directions.

Prakob Thongluan, 48, the motorcycle driver, was killed while the pillion rider, about 50, were seriously injured. The motorcycle was badly damaged. The wounded pillion rider was admitted to Hat Yai Hospital.

Imron Luangprathum, 59, the lorry driver, was brought to Hat Yai police station for questioning.

About an hour later, another accident took place at the same intersection with the blinking yellow lights. On this occasion, nobody was hurt.
