SAMUT PRAKAN: An car seat manufacturing factory in Bang Phli district was completely burned down in a fire on Saturday night, police said.

Pol Lt Col Nipon Nitiporn, a Bang Kaew police investigator, said the fire broke out at the factory of K. Auto Seat Limited Partnership at Jamjuree Housing Estate in Soi King Kaew at about 9.30pm.

When seven fire engines arrived at the scene, the two-storey factory on a 300-square wah plot was already engulfed by flames. The factory contained inflammable materials for making car seats, including about one tonne of sponge, a large number of PVC sheets and 30 sewing machines. The fire was brought under control in about 40 minutes, but the entire factory was burnt down.

Kittichai Poksanit, 56, the factory owner, said he heard an explosion before seeing piles of PVC sheets and sponge go up in flames. The fire then quickly spread to consume the sewing machines.

The damage was being assessed. Nobody was hurt.

Forensic police were investigating the cause of the fire.
