A senior naval officer and his wife were killed after a car they were travelling in skidded off the road and rammed into a large tree in Koh Kha district of Lampang province on Sunday morning, police said.
Pol Lt Kankawi Meetham, the duty officer at Koh Kha police station, said the accident was reported at about 8am. A police team and rescuers were despatched to the scene between kilometre markers 677 and 678 on Phahon Yothin road in Lampang's Koh Kha district.
The rescuers cut open the badly-damaged car to remove the bodies of the naval officer, identified later as Rr Adm Nopparat Pakthapong, 51, an assistant chief of staff attached to the defence permanent secretary, and his wife Pakarat, 52. They were from Sattahip district of Chon Buri province.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
