Ex-soldiers protest cancelled pensions

A small group of former soldiers who earlier resigned from the army and took jobs with government offices on Monday petitioned the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) complaining that their military pension and allowances had been unjustly cancelled and recalled by the Comptroller General's Department.

The ex- soldiers, about 10 of them led by Master Sgt Anant Khamsat, submitted their petition seeking justice at the complaints centre at the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office.

In the petition, they said that after resigning from military service and getting jobs with other government offices they initially received a pension and subsistence allowances for past military service, in addition to salaries from their new employers.

In mid-September this year they received a letter from the Comptroller General's Department notifying them of the cancellation of their pension and allowance payments and telling them to return the money they had received between Nov 16, 2000 and Jan 1, 2014.

They had petitioned the Comptroller General's Department and the Local Administration Department but to no avail, so they had now turned to the NCPO for help.

They asked the NCPO to void the Comptroller General's Department's order so that they could continue to receive their pensions and allowances.
