5.3 earthquake felt in Phuket

A Monday morning earthquake of 5.3-magnitude off the western Indonesian island of Sumatra was felt by Phuket residents, but there was no damage or casualties reported, according to the Seismological Bureau.

The information posted on the website of the bureau, which is part of the Thai Meteorological Department, said the earthquake occurred at 7.02am, with an epicentre 24km beneath waters off northern Sumatra.

The quake epicentre was about 250km southwest of Phuket.

The bureau said the quake was felt by Phuket residents, but provided no other details.
