Monks get old jobs back

The acting Supreme Patriarch has ordered Wat Sa Ket's abbot to reinstate duties to his assistant, who was accused of embezzling temple assets.

Wat Sa Ket abbot, Phra Phromsuthi confirmed the order yesterday, saying Somdej Phra Maha Ratchamangalacharn had ordered him to return the position of the caretaker of the Golden Mountain, the temple landmark, to Phra Phromsitthi.

Phra Phormsitthi's aides were also ordered to return to work at the temple in the posts they held under the former abbot of Wat Sa Ket and the late acting supreme patriarch Somdet Phra Buddhachan.

Phra Phromsuthi, who is also a member of the Sangha Supreme Council and chairman of Sangha Region 12, confirmed he had restored duties to Phra Phormsitthi.

The abbot had earlier suspended Phra Phromsitthi and four other monks from their jobs.

The five monks were responsible for handling donations, and the abbot believed they had been dishonest, especially with the portion of donations directly handled by Phra Phromsitthi.

The temple scandal flared after Phra Phromsuthi was accused of having relationships with women and amassing wealth, which the abbot denied. The accusations were believed to have originated from Phra Phromsitthi.
