THAI cancels some Chiang Mai flights

Thai Airways International will cancel some flights to Chiang Mai and reschedule other services on its northern route for the safety of passengers during the Loy Krathong festival.

THAI vice president Flt Lt Prathana Pattanasiri said on Thursday the airline had terminated two Chiang Mai-bound flights from Suvarnabhumi airport - TG120 and TG122 - and two return flights - TG121 and TG177 - from Nov 5-7 for safety reasons.

The cancellations were for the safety of passengers as Chiang Mai and other northern provinces will release the ballon-like khom loy during the festival, said Flt Lt Prathana, who is in charge of THAI'S Aviation Safety, Security and Standards Department.

The airline has also advanced the departure time of flight TG116 to Chiang Mai from 5.25pm to 4.50pm, he said.

TG136 to Chiang Rai will be moved up from 6.30pm to 5.55pm and flight TG137 from Chiang Rai will leave at 5.50pm instead of 8.05pm during the period, he added.

The two flights to and from Chiang Rai will be operated by its sister airline Thai Smile, according to the airline.
