Pol Maj Gen Srivara Rangsipramanakul, acting commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, led a team of city police and officials from the Department of Industrial Works and the Ratchathewi district office to search the warehouse on Rama VI Road in Ratchathawi district  on Thursday evening.

The raid followed a tip-off that many stolen motorcycles had been taken there and then broken down into spare parts for sale in Cambodia, Manager Online reported on Friday.

Nine people were arrested, including six unregistered Cambodian workers and two Thais found disassembling and sorting motorcycle parts during the raid. The caretaker of the godown, Naruemol Kerdud, 44, was also taklen into custody. Thirty-six stolen motorcycles were seized.

A book detailing the bikes supplied to the gang was also seized, and it listed 1,036 stolen motorcycles that had been delivered, Pol Maj Gen Srivara said.

Police said the workers had been paid a daily wage of 100 baht  each, plus another 250 baht for each stolen motorcycle they disassembled.  The spare parts were then packed and later delivered to an agent  in the eastern province of Trat, bordering Cambodia.

Police initially charged Ms Naruemol with hiring illegal migrant workers and providing shelter to them. The six Cambodian workers were charged with illegally entering and working in the country and were detained.
