Minor quake hits Lampang

A minor earthquake of 2.1 magnitude hit Lampang at 7.01am on Saturday with the epicentre in Soem Ngam district, but caused no damage, the Meteorological Department’s Seismological Bureau announced on Saturday.

The quake was not felt when it hit this northern province Saturday morning, said the bureau.

Lampang mineral resources office Zone 1 director Thinnakorn Thatthong said on Saturday that the epicentre of the quake was in a deep jungle in Soem Ngam district  adjacent to Lamphun province. No houses were located in the area, he added.

The quake was believed to be triggered by the small Thoen fault line that passed through the northern province, said Mr Thinnakorn.

His office is closely monitoring the fault line and eight other geological fault lines in the North, he said.
