CHANTHABURI — Police are hunting a noodle shop employee suspected of murdering and dismembering his nephew who worked in the same shop after a fist fight.
Police were called to the discovery of a headless body and other human parts in a canal near Chanthaburi provincial stadium in Muang distirict on Sunday at noon.
They found a blood-stained sledge hammer, a butcher's knife and a kitchen knife believed to be the weapons used in the murder in a nearby noodle shop.
Police identified the dead man as Thaworn Intachan, 41, and suspected the killer to be his uncle, Yos Chankaew, 61. Both men worked at the noodle shop.
The men’s relatives said Thaworn and his uncle drank alcohol together on Saturday night and had an argument that turned into a fist fight. Mr Yos could not beat his nephew. Police believed Mr Yos struck Thaworn’s head with a sledge hammer while he was sleeping, then chopped up his body and dumped the parts in the canal before fleeing. The noodle shop owner was in Trat province on errands at the time.
Mr Yos is reported to have mental issues.
