Sex venue raid turns up bribe list

Authorities raiding two city entertainment venues say they discovered a list of police officers who were allegedly bribed to ignore licence violations and illegal sex services.

A range of illegal items, from methamphetamine pills to marijuana, were also found during the raid early yesterday at Khum Phra Ram massage parlour on Srinakarin Soi 49 Road in Bangkok's Prawet district.

A team of 50 police and military officers targeted Khum Phra Ram and the nearby Rider Resort, which opened as an entertainment venue and restaurant, after hearing complaints the operations lacked licences and were offering sex services.

Soldiers say they found the list of police during their raid at Khum Phra Ram.

It reportedly shows monthly bribes to be paid to officers from the ranks of senior sergeant major to police inspector.

Police chief Gen Somyot Pumpanmuang has ordered an investigation, police spokesman Pol Lt Gen Prawut Thawonsiri said.

The list was typed and printed on the venue's letterhead, as though it were a formal document, he said.

The owners of the venues face charges including operating without a licence and offering sex services.
