Deputy government spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the cabinet meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon approved the allocation to build  the road from Hongsa town to Chomphet district in Luang Prabang.

The road would link Luang Prabang, which is registered as a World Heritage site, and Nan province through Ban Huay Kone border checkpoint in Chalerm Prakiat district of Nan, and would support a twin-city strategy for Nan and Luang Prabang, Col Sansern said.

The route would also support agro-industrial investment, tourism and the export of consumer products, fuel and materials for the agro-industry to Laos and therefore help improve the quality of life of Lao people, he said.

Col Sansern said the new road would link routes 4 and 13 in Laos and cut road travel time between Thailand and Vietnam through routes 4 and 6 in Laos.
