Major Ratchayothin vendors to go

An area in front of the Major Ratchayothin shopping mall will be off-limits to street vendors at all times starting from Dec 15, City Hall announced Monday.

Bangkok governor advisor Vichai Sangparpai said 177 vendors would be allowed to remain in the area stretching from the mouth of sois Paholyothin 33 and 35 until Dec 14 after talks with them. They then would continue their businesses at a flea market near SCB park, opposite the shopping complex.

The move is part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's efforts to clear pavements and return footpaths to pedestrians.

Mr Vichai said BMA officials had reorganised street vendors in 19 locations across Bangkok since July 17.
