BMA to ban Ratchayothin street vendors

Street vendors at Ratchayothin intersection have been told to move to a new designated site by Dec 15, an official said yesterday.

A total of 177 street vendors will be banned around the clock from the pavement between Phahon Yothin Soi 33 and 35, said Bangkok Metropolitan Administration adviser Vichai Sangparpai. Their last permitted day on that footpath is Dec 14.

The vendors have agreed to move to the new spot by the deadline, Mr Vichai said, adding it is a space in the SCB Park Plaza compound now being used as a flea market.

He said the footpath spot was among those locations that pedestrians had complained had been taken over by vendors.

Mr Vichai said vendors will also be banned from another two spots: the pavements between Na Phra Lan and Na Phra That roads and the footpaths at Tha Chang and Tha Tian. About 400 vendors will be banned from the areas, starting on Friday.
