Stranded tourists rescued off Krabi

The navy on Wednesday night rescued nine tourists after the boat they hired to go fishing broke down, leaving them stranded on the Andaman Sea for about 10 hours.

The tourists rent a fishing boat and went out sea about 10am on Wednesday. Strong winds and heavy seas apparently flooded the boat's engine leaving them adrift.

They were able to contact the Sala Dan Tambon Administrative Organisation and request assistance and  the navy was asked for help, according to a report in Thairath.

The marine security unit at Koh Lanta Noi sent a launch to search for the stranded tourists, which finally found them about 10 nautical miles off Koh Lanta, in Koh Lanta district of Krabi province.

The unhappy, hungry fishermen quickly perked up when the rescue boat arrived, gave them food and helped them return to shore.
