Amlo confiscates B8m assets of owners of illegal forest resort

The Anti-Money Laundering Office (Amlo) on Thursday acted to confiscate assets worth eight million baht from the owners of the demolished Ban Talay Mok Resort, which was illegally built within the boundary of Thap Lan National Park in Prachin Buri province.

An examination of transaction records belonging to Ban Talay Mok Resort Limited Partnership and associates found 14 assets acquired by offences committed under the Anti-Money Laundering Act.

They included a car, deposit accounts and an investment in the Government Savings Bank’s special lotteries, Amlo chief Seehanat Prayoonrat said on Thursday.

The inspection was carried out at the request of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP).

Mr Seehanat said there were a dozen more resorts allegedly encroaching on Thap Lan National Park, and those cases were now pending in court.

Amlo would freeze and seize all the deposit accounts gained from illegal business operations on the reserved forest land.

"Amlo wants to warn all people out there who continue their businesses on encroached land, because they think their buildings will only be razed at the end and believe they can rebuild them again. Or they think they are untouchable,” Mr Seehanat said.

“Amlo will seize assets from their wealth, which includes all the money in their bank accounts acquired from the [illegal] business.”
