Satun on landslide alert

Satun on landslide alert

Residents living in at-risk areas of all districts in Satun have been told to be on full alert for possible land subsidence or landslides after heavy downpours.

Governor Detcharut Simsiri issued the warning on Saturday as the heavy rains battering the southern province since Friday showed no sign of easing.

He told residents of all districts, particularly in areas facing repeat flooding such as tambon Kamphaeng in Langu district, to be on extra alert for land subsidence and landslides.

The governor advised fishermen to keep small fishing boats ashore for the time being due to strong winds and high waves. Boats ferrying tourists have also been told not to leave shore.

Mr Detcharut said he had asked the provincial office of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department to closely watch out the water levels in Chalung and Mambang canals as well as the Duson weir in Khuan Don district. They should alert local residents immediately if there are any overflows, he said.
