AYUTTHAYA — Early Sunday morning, two 14-year-old boys jumped on a motorcycle and set out on a 100-kilometre ride across three provinces to steal telephone cable -- only to be caught red-handed.
Police arrested the boys on a local road in tambon Hua Pai of Maharat district in Ayutthaya and seized from them a motorcycle without a licence plate, a 12-metre section of telephone cable and pliers at about 5am after a bystander alerted them to a theft.
The two youngsters were members of a teenage motorcycle gang which tore up quiet streets at night and harassed people in Si Prachan district of Suphan Buri.
Police said they rode from Suphan Buri through Ang Thong province to Ayutthay where they commited the crime. The gang had many young members but only two of them came to steal the cable.
The pair allegedly admitted they wanted to sell the stolen item and use the money for drugs and entertainment.
