Volunteer rangers get small pay rise

More than 23,000 volunteer rangers in the three southernmost provinces will receive an extra 80 baht in their daily allowance, raising it from 120 baht to 200 baht.

A Defence Council meeting, chaired by Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon, on Wednesday agreed to improve the payments to ranger volunteers and to amend the ministerial regulation covering their allowances, Defence  Ministry spokesman Col Khongcheep Tantrawanit said.

There are 23,227 ranger volunteers - 869 women and 22,358 men - across the country. They mostly work in the three southernmost border provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat.
