Russian couple claim kidnap attempt

A Russian couple on Wednesday filed a complaint with Pattaya police accusing a compatriot of trying to kidnap the wife, probably for ransom.

The complaint was filed by Vladimir Pomytkin, a 47-year-old real estate businessman, and his wife Yulia Tikhovskaya, 37, at Nong Prue police station in Chon Buri’s Bang Lamung district, according to a Khaosod report.

Ms Tikhovskaya said the kidnapping attempt occurred three days ago while her husband was away on a business trip outside of Thailand. She said she waited for him to return before reporting the incident to police.

She claimed a man, whom she identified as Aleksander Kuznetsov whom the couple knew well, asked her to drive to his home in Soi Pornprapa Nimit and take him on errands in Soi Khao Noi.

When Ms Tikhovskaya’s Nissan Teana stopped in front of Chok Chai 4 housing estate, Mr Kuznetsov allegedly used what appeared to be a taser on her neck several times. The woman fought him, managed to get out of the car and sought help from locals.

Mr Kuznetsov then followed her and told bystanders that they were husband and wife having an argument and that people should leave them alone. But no one believed him. The man then fled with her car.

She was taken home by one of the witnesses. Ms Tikhovskaya said she was living with her daughter in a house in Pattaya municipality and her husband frequently travelled abroad.

While a duty officer was questioning the couple, a friend called their mobile and said he had found their car on the roadside near Big C South Pattaya.

Police went to collect fingerprints from the stolen Nissan. They found the car’s key and licence plate had been put in the vehicle’s boot.
