Foul smell gone from Siam Square One

Siam Square's new shopping mall is no longer troubled by a foul smell, says its management.

Boonsong Srisawangnet, vice-president of Siam Square One, told reporters yesterday the management had fixed the hydrogen sulphide leak inside the recently opened mall, before leading a tour of the seven-storey building.

Many of the building's tenants complained in late September about the smell, which had also annoyed shoppers and passersby.

Mr Boonsong said out of the 300 tenants, 31 had asked to terminate their contracts because of the smell.

The smell was due to a faulty water system and poor ventilation inside the building, he said.

A number of steps were taken to ensure the problem has been solved for the long term, said Mr Boonsong.

Paitoon Ngammuk, Environmental Sanitation Officer for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, confirmed after a recent inspection by BMA officers that the hydrogen sulphide smell had gone.
