Highway police on Thursday morning seized 100kg of compressed marijuana from a car that broke through a checkpoint Khon Kaen province.
Pol Lt Col Anant Wichsethasamit, chief of the Khon Kaen-based 4th Highway Police Sub-division, said the seizure was made at about 8am after a Khon Kaen-registered black Toyota Corolla sped past a highway police a drug checkpoint in Phon district on Mitraparp Highway.
Police gave chase and found the car abandoned not far from the checkpoint. The driver had fled. Found in the car were bars of dried marijuana stuffed in a black plastic bag.
Pol Lt Col Anant said the marijuana might have been taken from a dealer in a border province with Laos for further distribution in the country.
