Cabinet approves 5,000 more police

The cabinet on Tuesday approved a budget of 576 million baht for the Royal Thai Police Office to recruit an additional 5,000 non-commissioned officers.

The RTPO submitted a request for the extra manpower to the cabinet for approval through Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon, who is chairman of the Police Commission.  The request was made in line with a cabinet resolution of July 2.

The 5,000 positions are open to applicants in two categories.

The first is for secondary education graduates or those with a vocational education certificate.  They are required to pass a test and undergo a one-year training period at police schools for non-commissioned officers. There are  4,000 vacancies in this category.

In the second category, applicants must hold a secondary education or vocational education certificate and be reservists who have served as military conscripts.  They will graduate as non-commissioned officers after passing a test and attending a four-month training course. There are 1,000 vacancies.
