Jakkrit's wife, father to control assets

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN — The father and wife of Jakkrit Panichpatikum were ordered by the provincial court on Wednesday to jointly manage the inheritance left by the murdered national sport shooter.

Judge Anirut Jaithieng said Manop Panichpatikum and Nithiwadee Phucharoenyos would be jointly manage the assets of the slain athlete, who left behind an inheritance of about 200 million baht when he was murdered on Oct 19 last year.

The assets were accumulated by Jakkrit and his wife before his death, the judge said. Jakkrit and Dr Nithiwadee were married but the couple did not sign a marriage certificate.

But the judge said his wife was eligible to be an inheritance administrator because she had a son and daughter with him. The assets were accumulated by Jakkrit and his wife before his death, he said.

Mr Manop said after the court order that he would assign his lawyer to appeal the ruling to obtain sole control of the assets.

Dr Nithiwadee did not appear before the court and she was represented by her lawyer, who did not make any comments.

Mr Manop filed the case to the court to be the only asset manager with Dr Nithiwadee as a defendant.

Jakkrit was shot dead in Min Buri district while driving to meet his wife. Police later arrested Jakkrit's mother-in-law, Surang Duangjinda, for the murder. Mrs Surang confessed to the crime to protect her daughter from being abused by the famous athlete during their marriage by hiring gunmen to kill him.

Dr Nithiwadee was charged with the murder but the judge said she is considered innocent until the court case on the murder charges ends. Her mother said she was not involved in the murder.
