Police deny Nopporn arrest reports

Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) commander Sriwara Rangsiphramnakul has denied reports that the chairman of Wind Energy Holding Co (WEH) has been arrested in Cambodia.

Nopporn Suppipat, 43, wanted by police on several charges including extortion, intimidation and lese majeste, was believed to have fled across the border into Cambodia via a checkpoint in Chanthaburi province.

Mr Nopporn, the founder and chairman of the executive committee of WEH, is alleged to have hired Natthanan Thawawech, Chalach Phothirac and three other men to kidnap one of his creditors and force him to reduce the debt Mr Nopporn owed from 120 million baht to 20 million baht.

Pol Lt Gen Sriwara said police had credible information that Mr Nopporn had entered Cambodia on Monday about 5am through the Phakkad border checkpoint in Chanthaburi's Pong Namron district with the intention of fleeing Thailand.

Chanthaburi's immigration office chief inspector Pol Lt Col Pansak Worawiboonsawad denied Mr Nopporn entered Cambodia via provincial border checkpoints.
