A Swedish man was found hanged inside a deserted unfinished high-rise building in Bangkok’s Sathon district on Friday evening.
Jor Sor 100 FM radio immediately contacted Yannawa police after being alerted about the tragedy at the 49-storey Sathon Unique Tower building, on Chaoroenkrung Soi 51 off Charoenkrung Road at about 7pm on Friday.
Police found the body of a Swedish man, aged around 30-35, hanged on the 43rd floor of the building, opposite Wat Yannawa. The man, whose name was withheld, had died at least seven days before his body was found, Thai media reported on Saturday.
A wooden stair, a rice box and an empty can of beer were found near his body. A black wallet containing a driving licence issued by Swedish authorities and two credit cards was found in his jeans.
Natthawat, a chef at a restaurant in Thawi Watthana district, who alerted the radio station, said he went to take photos at the high-rise building as part of his hobby of photographing bird-eye’s views of the capital. He paid a 100-baht service fee to a security guard at the building.
After taking photos on the roof-deck of the building at about 11am on Friday, he went down and there was a bad smell coming from a bathroom on the 43rd floor.
He had tried in vain to contact police before deciding to post his message on the popular website Pantip.com and a website user suggested he alert Jor Sor 100 FM radio station.
Pol Lt Kriattisak Pimmanon of Yannawa police station said police would contact relatives of the Swedish victim whose name was on the driving licence. The body would be sent to Police General Hospital for autopsy.
