Malaysian driver dies in Hat Yai van

SONGKHLA — A Malaysian public van driver was found dead in his vehicle in the parking lot of Hat Yai train station on Sunday.

Hat Yai police investigator Pol Lt Chutipon Supannoi said the body of Khua Leong Hwa, 42, was found in a passenger seat of a Malaysian-registered Nissan van by a group of Malaysian tourists who were his passengers at about 4.30pm, Siam Rath reported.

Khua, an employee of a Malaysian private transport company, was hired to drive the group from Malaysia's Penang state to Hat Yai station where they would catch a train to Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan. But when he took them to Ban Prakob border crossing in Songkhla, he unexpectedly had a severe stomach ache, vomited and could not continue driving.

One of the passengers then took the driver’s seat and drove to the train station. The group left Khua alone in the van for 10 minutes to buy train tickets and found him dead when they returned. Pol Lt Chutipon said a post-mortem was to be carried out to find the cause of death.
