A former member of the Tambon Mayo Municipality Council was murdered by a gunman in Mayo district of Pattani province on Tuesday morning, police said.
Pol Col Kong-ath Suwankham, the Mayo police chief, said the attack occurred about 9.10am as Saidee Yuso, 59, a former member of Tambon Mayo Municipality Council, was travelling on a motorcycle heading for the home of his second wife.
While passing in front of a Mayo mosque, Saidee was shot from a car which had followed him. He was hit many times and seriously wounded. He died after being admitted to Mayo Hospital.
Police found a spent shells from M16 ammunition at the scene.
Police were investigating the motive for the murder.
