Khao Bin warder in 'ice' bust

RATCHABURI — Police have arrested a warder at Khao Bin Central Prison, a maximum security facility for drug offenders, for allegedly smuggling crystal methamphetamine, or "ya ice", into the prison and selling it to inmates.

Corrections Department chief Witthaya Suriyawong said officials at Khao Bin searched Zone 7 in the facility for illegal items on Sunday night and found an inmate in possession of 100gm of crystal meth.

The inmate said he obtained the drug from Sitthipong Pansawai, a prison guard. When he was questioned by police  Mr Sitthipong allegedly confessed to hiding the ‘ice’ in his rectum and then selling it to inmates.

Police later arrested his girlfriend Nipada Mongkholsiri at his home in Muang district, where they found more crystal meth. Police did not disclose the amount of the drug seized from Mr Sitthipong’s home.

Mr Witthaya said the disgraced prison warder had been suspended and police had filed criminal charges against him.
