The cabinet on Tuesday approved a pay rise of 4% for about 2 million government officials, starting on Dec 1.
Government spokesman Yongyuth Maiyalarp and his deputy Sansern Kaewkumnerd told the press that 1.98 million civil service officials would benefit from the increase. They include soldiers, police, teachers, educational personnel, parliamentary officials, staffs of independent and constitutional organisations, and judicial and human rights employees.
The pay rise also covers 126,200 government officials with undergraduate degrees.
The cost-of-living allowance would vary to benefit the target groups. Those whose monthly income is below 10,000 baht will receive a higher allowance so that their monthly income reaches 10,000 baht. For those already receiving more, their total monthly income is limited at 13,285 baht.
