Indian gem trader falls to death

A 56-year-old Indian gem trader fell to his death from the eighth floor of a condominium on Charoenkrung Road in Bangkok on Thursday morning.

His body was found in the parking lot on the fourth floor of the 15-storey Thai Sathit condominium on Soi Charoenkrung 20 in Samphanthawong district about 6.20am on Thursday, police said.

The man's name was withheld. Police said there were no traces of a struggle in his room on the eighth floor of the condo. Police believed he fell from the balcony, Manager Online reported.

A tenant on the sixth floor said he heard a loud sound, like something heavy landing, not far beneath his room. A car alarm started blaring and he went to the parking lot to investigate. He found the man's body on the floor.

Police said they will examine closed-circuit security camera footage and have yet to rule out any motive for the man's death.

The Indian gem trader stayed with his son and often exercised early in the morning. His body was sent to Police General Hospital for an autopsy, the report said.
