The workers struck after learning their bonus would be the equivalent of six months' pay, plus a special allowance of 5,500 baht each, smaller than the 7.8 months' pay and 12,000 baht allowance they received last year. They demanded a 7-month bonus plus special an allowance of 10,000 baht each.

More than 2,000 morning-shift employees at Thai Arrow Product Co, manufacturer of power cables and high-voltage electric wires, picketed in front of the factory, prompting management to hold talks with worker representatives, Thai media reported.

Provincial labour-protection and welfare officials arrived at the factory at about 10am. At press time, no conclusion had been reached.

Thai Arrow Production Co employs about 4,200 workers. The factory has 34 shutter buses to provide free transportation services to employees in the province and nearby Sukhothai province.
