The Korean president asked visiting Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha in Busan to consider Korean firms taking part in water management schemes.

The cabinet has put on hold the 350 billion baht water projects initiated by the Pheu Thai Party-led government. It plans to work on a new blueprint to prevent future flooding and Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkumnerd, another spokesman, said on Nov 25 that winning bidders in the suspended projects would not be left out.

One of the winners in the bidding before the military coup was the Korea Water Resources Corporation which grabbed two of nine modules, but contracts have not been signed.

The Korean president also was keen in developing the railway in Thailand and said its expertise would help shorten the construction period, Mr Yongyuth added.

Gen Prayut is in Busan for a special summit between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and South Korea to mark their 25th year of relations.

He told Korean and Asean investors in a parallel forum that the government would protect all investments and continued measures to stimulate the economy including plans to set up economic special zones in border areas with neighbouring countries.
