Ruling on ex-Democrat MP postponed

The Supreme Court on Friday postponed its ruling on former Democrat MP for Kanchanaburi Pracha Phothipipit, known as Kamnan Sia, and three others on a charge of rigging a 40 million baht contact until Jan 27, 2015.

Pracha Phothipipit, better known as Kamnan Sia

The Criminal Court accepted a request for a delay after counsel for one of the defendants, Wanna Lorphaibul, presented a medical certificate attesting she could not be present.

It was also submitted that Mr Pracha and his wife Khemaporn Tangjaiyen had not received the court's summons to hear the ruling.

Kamnan Sia, 62, his wife Khemaporn, 42, Mrs Wanna who is Mrs Khemaporn's close aide, and Thawil Sawasdee were charged with using force to stop Wassadu Centre Co from participating in the bidding for a 40-million-baht irrigation project in Kanchanaburi province from 1999 to 2001.

The Criminal Court sentenced Kamnan Sia to five years in jail and the other to four years imprisonment each, but the Appeals Court later acquitted them.

Public prosecutors then petitioned the Supreme Court fopr a final  judgement.
