2 more Pongpat-linked warrants out

The Criminal Court approved warrants Monday for two more people, including a police officer, allegedly linked to the purported criminal network of former Central Investigation Bureau chief Pongpat Chayapan.

The court late today approved requests by police for warrants against Pol Lt Col Songrak Khunsri, deputy chief of the Crime Suppression Division's Sub-Division 6, and civilian Songpol Thongsin on charges of conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Pol Lt Col Songrak is Pol Lt Gen Pongpat's aide. Mr Songpol is a driver for former CIB deputy chief Pol Maj Gen Kowit Wongrungroj, who was arrested last month along with Pol Lt Gen Pongpat on a number of serious charges, including lese majeste.

The arrest warrants came after the two individuals failed to respond to summons from investigators for further questioning.

Police said Pol Lt Col Songrak has not shown up for work for more than 15 days and has not given a reason. Police then summoned him for additional questioning, but he still could not be reached.
