Committee to pull together graft work

The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has set up a committee to integrate the work of anti-corruption agencies, Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said yesterday.

Mr Wissanu said the committee is chaired by Prime Minister and NCPO leader Prayut Chan-o-cha, with Justice Minister Paiboon Koomchaya, who is also in charge of the NCPO’s legal and judicial affairs, as deputy chairman.

He was speaking after a joint meeting of the cabinet and the NCPO yesterday. Combating corruption is one of the NCPO’s priorities, Mr Wissanu said.

Another three NCPO members and some outsiders will also be appointed, Mr Wissanu said, adding the committee will report directly to the NCPO.

When it uncovers any suspected corruption, the panel will alert state agencies to take further action. With the support of the NCPO’s corruption-monitoring mechanisms, the panel should help ease the work of other anti-graft bodies, he said.
