No leave for Bangkok police over NY

The Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) said city police will not be allowed to take leave during the New Year holidays as part of measures to tighten security for residents during the festive period.

MBP chief Sriwara Rangsiphramnakul on Thursday issued a letter instructing city police to fully perform all their duties during the New Year celebrations from Dec 31 to Jan 4, as many New Year revelers will flock to the provinces.

Police must be on full alert and deal with any emergency cases during the holiday period and officers at all levels must not take leave between Dec 30 and Jan 5, said Pol Lt Gen Sriwara in his letter.

In case of emergencies, leave requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis by their immediate commanders, said the city police chief.
