Japanese man found hanged in Silom

A 62-year-old Japanese man was found hanged inside a room of a residential building in Bangkok’s Silom area early Thursday.

The body of the Japanese national, whose name is being withheld, was found on the 14th floor of the 22-storey Diamond Tower on Soi Silom 7 off Silom Road in Bang Rak district, said police who were alerted at 3am.

The man used a black electric wire to hang himself from the bedroom's door handle. No bruises were found along his body. There were also no signs of struggle. Doctors believed he died at least three hours before his death was found, Thai media reported.

A handwritten note in Japanese, with a word meaning ''sorry'' was found inside the room.

Pol Lt Col Preecha Ponsa, of Thung Maha Mek police station, quoted Japanese and Thai friends of the dead man as saying that he was a watch salesman. He had suffered an illness and sought medical treatment several times.

Some of his friends had talked to him on the phone at 11pm Wednesday after he returned from the hospital. After not being able to reach him afterward, they went to his room, finding it locked.  They alerted building staffers to break open the room and discovered his body.

Police initially believed the man might have committed suicide due to stress from his illness. An autopsy will be performed to find out the real cause of his death.
