Teen knife attack spurs iPhone fear

Police are hunting for two men who stabbed a 13-year-old boy before snatching his iPhone 5c in Bangkok's Suan Luang district.

On Dec 16, police responded to a reported stabbing at a bus stop near Home Place Phatthanakan village on Phatthanakan Road, Suan Luang sub-district.

Rescue crews rushed the victim to Vibharam Hospital where he is recovering.

The victim, whom authorities named only as "Eak", is a Mathayom 1 student at Triam Udom Suksa Pattanakarn School.

Investigators say he was waiting for a bus after school and took out his iPhone to kill time.

Two lanky men in jeans, riding a motorcycle, stabbed him in his torso before grabbing the phone and speeding away toward Phatthanakan intersection, said Pol Capt Yutthana Lamphao, an investigator at Prawet station.

Police said no security cameras were installed at the scene, and they are now trying to match footage from three cameras in nearby areas with the time of the incident.

Descriptions of both suspects were being distributed to nearby stations to help hunt for the culprits, who police believe live in the area.

Pol Capt Yutthana is warning the public to be wary of displaying mobile phones, and the boy's parents on Monday posted a message on Facebook urging other parents to discourage their children from using phones in public.
