Ex-policeman jailed for attempted murder

The Supreme Court on Wednesday sentenced a former Huay Kwang police officer to ten years in prison for attempted murder, reversing an Appeal Court's decision to dismiss the case.

The Criminal Court initially sentenced Pol Capt Jessada Jetporn, a former deputy investigation chief at Huay Kwang police station, to ten years in jail for violating the Arms Act and attempting to kill Monthien Jittrakul, 46, a taxi driver, on July 18, 2010, in Wang Thong Lang district.

The Appeal Court ordered the case dismissed.

The high court reversed the appeals court decision,  reinstating the 10-year term on the grounds that the former police officer's refusal to hand over his gun for forensic examination did not warrant the dismissal of the case.
