Surapol joined the Bangkok Post's team of photographers on July 1, 1992. Highly dedicated to his job and a hard-working career photographer, he was also well-loved by his colleagues.

He was admitted to the hospital in June last year. Even during his treatment, Surapol made a point to come to work and was entrusted by the team to carry out tasks in his area of expertise in high-angle photo taking. One of Surapol's sons, Krit Promsaka na Sakolnakorn, works as a full-time photographer for the Post Today newspaper.

Last year, Surapol claimed second prize in the crime category of the Mass Media Photographers Association of Thailand annual awards. The winning photo shows a mother kicking a man as he asks for forgiveness for raping and murdering her daughter. The presentation ceremony was in July last year, but the award was collected on Surapol's behalf because he was in the process of treatment.

Funeral rites are being held until Sunday at Sala 15, Wat Phra Sri Mahathat, in Bang Khen district. The cremation will be held on Monday at 4pm.

Check out some selected photos taken by Surapol during his 22-year career at the Bangkok Post.
