3 die as van hits truck

Samut Prakan: Three people, including two Indian tourists, were killed when their passenger van crashed into a six-wheel water truck which was watering trees at Suvarnabhumi airport.

The accident, which happened yesterday morning on the elevated road leading to the airport terminal, also wounded another eight people, including two Indian toddlers, aged one and two years old, and two workers on the truck, according to police.

The dead were identified as  Chakkrit Silawong, 24, the van driver, Suresh Kumar Dewan, 68, and Nupur Dewan, 29.

Police believe Chakkrit was trying to overtake another vehicle when he hit the truck, which was in the right lane and had its emergency lights on. The van rammed into the back of the water truck. The crash threw the damaged van to the middle of the road.

The injured victims were taken to Chularat 9 Hospital for treatment.

The wounded Indian nationals were identified as Nidhi Dewan, 30, Nitin Dewan, 38, Sachin Business, 37, Achla Dewan, 59, Ashrika Dewan, 2, and Araina Dewan, 1. The injured workers on the truck were Montri Phuangkham, 37, the truck driver, and Sakhon Sikotaphet, 30.
