B120,000 dowry stolen at wedding

The father of a bride was shocked after a dowry of 120,000 baht he kept inside a wardrobe at his house in Ubon Ratchathani went missing on Friday evening.

Police went to the two-storey house at Nong Manao village in tambon Kudlad of Muang district to investigate after being alerted about the missing dowry at about 5.30pm.

The officers found traces of ransacking in two wardrobes on the second floor of the house. The 120,000-baht dowry or sinsod that the 27-year-old Supakrit (surname withheld) gave to the parents of his 23-year-old bride Rojana on Friday morning, disappeared, Thai media reported on Saturday.

Mr Pramual, 49, father of the bride, kept the money in one of the wardrobes without locking it and returning to join the wedding party of his daughter at the yard in front of his house. In the evening, he went upstairs to bring the money to pay for the party's wedding expenses, but only to find that the dowry of 120,000 baht had been stolen.

Police said the family suspected the theft might be an inside job involving two people. One of them was a relative who left the party in a hurry and the other one was a boyfriend of the bride’s younger sister who took a rest on the second floor of the house during the wedding party.

During the interrogation, the boyfriend did not look suspicious, said the officers. They will summon the suspected relative for questioning.
