Children still dream of being doctors

Doctor remained the most-popular dream career for Thai children for the sixth consecutive year in a survey conducted by international recruitment firm Adecco Thailand.

The Adecco Thailand Children's Survey 2015 queried 1,000 children ages 7-14, with the majority choosing doctor, as they wished to help people, look after their families, and earn a good income.

The other top-five career choices were soldier, policeman, teacher and engineer.

Other careers trending popular this year are businessperson, football player, chef and jobs in the entertainment industry - including singer, musician, TV/movie star, model or presenter - because those careers can bring happiness to others.

Besides the careers mentioned, other professions that interest children are agriculturist, programmer, designer, stylist, architect, professional gamer, cartoonist, hairdresser, make-up artist, detective and news reporter.

Tidarat Kanchanawat, Adecco Group Thailand regional director for Thailand and Vietnam, said the survey results show Thai kids have a variety of dreams, more than ever. Some careers that only a few children dreamed about in the past have become popular now, such as a TV/movie star, singer, make-up artist, hairdresser, and professional gamer.

The best/coolest job they can think of is soldier.

More than half of the children replied that Thailand is their No 1 dream country where they want to live. The next choices were Japan and the US.

When they are asked if they were to become Prime Minister of Thailand, the first five things they would do are develop the country, help the poor, improve the educational system, bring peace to the country, and ensure everyone in the country has a job.
