Deputy government spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said that the lanes — which also can be used for walking — and recreational areas would be built on both banks of the river over a distance of 14 kilometres. Construction will be divided into two stages covering seven kilometres each.

Deputy City Clerk Adisak Kantee said that Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon, who leads the project's implementation, would discuss it with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration next week. They will determine if the project would need any land expropriation and which parts of public land along the river could serve the plan.

Mr Adisak said that the BMA planned to build the cycling and walking lanes as well as recreational areas from Rama VII Bridge to Phra Pin Klao Bridge.
