Peerayudh likely new MRTA chief

Peerayudh Singpatanakul is expected to be the next governor of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA).

MRTA board chairman Yodyuth Boonyatikarn said on Wednesday that Mr Peerayudh, deputy governor (Engineering and Construction) of the MRTA, received the highest number of votes in the election for the new MRTA governor.

The election result has also been approved by the MRTA board. The appointment will be sent for cabinet approval soon.

Gen Yodyuth also said the recruitment process will continue as normal despite Ronnachit Yaemsaard, acting MRTA governor, filing charges against the MRTA’s recruitment board.

Mr Ronnachit claims the Administrative Court must issue an official order to halt recruitment.

Last December, Mr Ronnachit accused four members of the recruitment board on two charges of dereliction of duty — treating a candidate unfairly by specifying that he/she must not be the acting governor of the MRTA on the date of the application, and performing the recruitment process incorrectly.
